Dear friends,

Thank you for your engagement in CPJ’s 2022 Give it up for the Earth!campaign. Climate change is inextricably linked to our collective well-being. Even amidst multiple crises, the global climate emergency requires continued attention and action.

To move forward in a good way, Indigenous autonomy must be prioritized. Economic and social structures must also be transformed to create space for the voices that have been traditionally marginalized and continue to be vulnerable to the changing climate.

Give it up for the Earth! 2022 includes three action items:

1.Reduce personal and household greenhouse gas emissions. 

2.Commit to learning about and building relationships with the Indigenous communities on whose traditional territories we live, work, and play.

3.Send a letter to the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Steven Guilbeault, urging follow-through on existing climate action commitments and calling for a legislated just transition that centres Indigenous rights; promotes fairness and inclusion; and creates good, secure, green jobs.

This year’s Give it up for the Earth! letter is available in three formats:

• a downloadable letter (one letter, one signature),
• a downloadable petition-style letter (one letter, up to 85 signatures), and
• a digital letter (one letter, one signature, submitted online).

Additional resources to help animate the campaign are also available at cpj.ca/fortheearth with more being added in the coming days. 

Please note: This year, rather than mailing physical materials, we invite you to download and print the letters and resources your group requires. Please let us know if this option is not available to you and we will ensure you receive your required materials.
